The 2011 Los Angeles Film Festival world premier of SAWDUST CITY, written and directed by David Nordstrom, got off to a great start with a fantastic reception by the festival’s audience. I had the pleasure of working with the film’s music supervisor and KCRW resident DJ, Dan Wilcox.

Sawdust City has been invited to premiere in competition at the Los Angeles Film Festival this June 16-27, 2011. The Film and trailer feature the track “Oak Creek Blues,” originally composed for the film by Jorge Corante. The film stars Lee Lynch, Carl McLaughin, David Nordstrom, and it’s written and directed by David Nordstrom.

Year of the Asian American Women Filmmakers

Great article on a film I recently scored titled “Adultolescence” directed by Vicky Shen.

Vicky Shen’s Adultolescence will start playing the festivals this year. Adultolescence is a coming of age drama about a young Asian American woman aspiring to be a filmmaker. Vicky Shen starred as the protagonist and co-directed the film with Zoe Bui who first appeared in her brother’s Sundance entry Three Seasons.

I was privileged enough to get a sneak peak at the film. Like Motherland, the backbone of the project is also autobiographical and I think that’s also the strength of the movie. There are some genuinely intense and raw feelings expressed in the film that set it apart from more traditional fictional narrative films. In some way, it is a portrait of the artist as a young Asian American woman. Read more
